Trip So Far

Posted by Adam V.

This has been the most amazing experience of my life. We have visited many interesting places and done some really cool things. Visiting the Slums was a lot of fun, and i met myfuture wife there. When watching one of the classes iI sat outside on a chair and some of the women there were fascinated with the paleness of my skin. I had my picture taken with them and made parting wishes.
The experience that changed me the most was the Genocide Museum and the Killing fields. The Genocide Museum wich was actually a torture chamber disgusted me because of the pictures of the victims aswell as aglass case containing murder weapons. The killing fields wich sported massgraves and other remnants of human extermination was a meaningfull sight wich really got me, death was all around and i eventually broke down and cried. After seeing all of this it made me question humanity itself.

  1. So you have made wedding plans without my (your father's) involvement! Does your mother approve?
I am glad to read about your first few days in Cambodia. I was especially taken with your comments about Day 3 and the visit to the museum and the Killing Fields. I know that the visits must have been difficult for you. You have seen first hand the memorials of man's cruelty to man. Every generation must continue to be informed and reminded of such events to ensure that they are not repeated. People from all sorts of backgrounds, nationalities and religions around our globe continue to be mistreated, murdered and stripped of their fundamental humanity and dignity. Only by continued good deeds and the application of the right values and morals can we hope that these terrible evil episodes become firmly a thing of the past - something that you read of in history books and not in today's newspapers.
That being said... I am off to bed. I cannot get over the time difference between us. You're already halfway through tomorrow! I love and miss you (and your mother) a lot - but I guess you probably already knew that. Enjoy the next part of your trip and keep posting blog entries.

  2. Hi Adam. I can't believe you are half-way around the world in Cambodia. Reading your blog was so touching. It's amazing to see the maturity you have even though you are just 13-14. It's wonderful and unique! I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your time there. You definitely have to share you experiences with me.....and tell me about this future wife you're met! :) Have a great time....and learn as much as you can....you are so lucky you have this oncein a lifetime opportunity......use it wisely!
